Dark Magician

Gold 1 from on March 22nd, 2023

Notes & Combos

This deck was hard going, but still held on to make gold 1, originally I had a few different ideas in Silver where I had 2 wizardary on DM, but with the blaze and burn decks running rampent, I put anti negative skills on reducing attack power for better protection. The main thing here is to hold and control the field, using Dark Magician's master skill to burn the opponent whilst keeping your opponent's out with cards like Block Attack, the Swords duo, Enemy Controller and Poisonous winds if you get more pressured.

Usually you will get second but you can get wins as well, if the duel goes more in your favour. The bonus card is not needed but that is why Aria is there, as well as be a more stall techinique.

I used to run stray lambs to help with summoning DM or BEWD, but took it out for sword of concealing light, as I had 3 ways to summon it and trap dustshoot not being as popular as it once was.

If I personally was to make an improvements to the deck, I would consider Celestial Transformation as it can ressurect DM and without the worry about it not being killed off due to the downsides, or to simply use it as another Flute of Summoning Kuriboh to protect my life, remember you could bring winged Kuriboh back too, if it was killed in the previous turn in another lane for added protection.

Another change maybe to sub Blue Eyes out for either Red Eyes to do additional slow down and burn damage, or Galaxy Eyes to negate annoying guardians or threats like Firewall. Also maybe include either stargazer or SH for the destruction immunity against BEWD but in fairness you should be able to change that with DMG or the previously mentioned change of Celestial Transformation.

Overall the road to gold 1 from silver 2 was filled with ups and downs, my low points mainly coming from my ipad crashing during a match where I could defend myself against a 5000+ attack Magician of Black Chaos only to be kicked out and lose. Or with people being matched up with me in higher tiers who bully to weak player. Though that wasn't always the case hohoho!

After 4 seasons of being bad, it is great to see DM being used, and whilst this deck doesn't run typical staples like LinkKuriboh or Shield Handler, or even running the abyss actor engine (Yes I run leading lady, but I'm not making this the abyss actors featuring the Dark Magician). Dark Magician is still very capable of being a strong deck, what will the future hold? Who knows but this deck has done itself proud!
